As an artist and designer Lu Hopkins has always been fascinated by technique and process, exploring where the methods of one discipline effect change when applied to a different medium. Her willingness to experiment and her interest in cross-discipline collaboration have contributed to a wide-ranging career in fashion, home and commercial design and print/pattern production.

Having graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 with a BFA in Textiles, Lu's first job was mastering hand silk-screened fabrics at a fine art textile workshop. Her interest in process and technologies soon led her to New York City, where the commercial textile industry was in the midst of a CAD revolution. Using this new tool to create intricate wovens was an important milestone in her growth as a designer, as she came to better understand that the blending of tradition and technology was what spurred her creativity. Today, Lu combines her textile and print-making abilities with CLI's production prowess, working with architects, interior designers and other clients to create custom digital print-ready art based on their ideas and needs.
